There’s nothing more satisfying than a great staycation in the UK. Saving money on flights, hotels, airport transfers whilst staying in the comfort of your own country, with your own car and being able to explore more of your home area or country.
If you’re looking for something a bit more remote than a city escape or a spa break, these 6 unique places to stay are perfect for secluded UK getaways. Secluded places to stay in the UK are surprisingly easy to find once you leave the cities and with secluded log cabins, remote tiny house experiences, remote holiday cottages in Wales, coastal camping getaways, there’s something for everyone in the UK.
You might also like 5 ideas for a weekend away in the UK.
1. Secluded Cotswolds log cabin with a hot tub
Less than an hour from Birmingham and about an hour from Oxford, this secluded UK getaway is in the shape of a insta-worthy remote log cabin, complete with a hot tub.
Located in the small village of Mickleton and tucked away down a long farm track, there are 3 cabins on a farmer’s farmland. While the other 2 cabins are nearby, there is suitable distance between each and you’re a whole field away from the farmhouse.
The cabin sleeps 4 people with a double bed loft area and a foldout sofa bed, full kitchen amenities, full toilet/wet room and a log burning stove heats the hot tub and the cabin. Parking is also included.
There is a small store and a pub in the village nearby, but if you bring your own supplies for the duration of your trip, this is the perfect secluded UK getaway for a family, a romantic weekend away or a girls trip to escape the city.
Book the cabin here - Poppy’s Pad. (if this one is unavailable, check the host’s other listings to see the other two cabins)

2. Remote glamping pod with private garden and fire pit, near Bath
If you’re further south and fancy being near, but not too near, to a city, look no further than this cute wooden tiny house ‘pod’ just a 20-minute drive from Bath.
Bath is a beautiful historic city in itself, with plenty to see and do, but if you’re determined to escape the city, then this self-contained pod is perfect for your secluded UK getaway.
Located in the remote village of Marshfield, this sleepy village is really a gem in the countryside. The pod is in an enclosed walled garden within a resident’s garden. However it’s a self-check in process and we never even saw the house owners during our time there.
The pod is beautiful with enough space to sleep 4. The enclosed garden area is for the pod only, there is outdoor seating around a fire pit for you to keep warm and cook on with the griddle. Parking is also included. The owners have two pigs and some chickens which you can also visit on the property.
A 5-10 minute walk gets you to the main village where there is a store, a couple of pubs, a couple of tearooms and cafes.

3. Isolated camping on the coast near Robin Hood’s Bay
Camping in the UK can be a bit hit or miss, especially if you’re more of a fair weather camper. But I promise this camping location will blow your socks off, with the added bonus that it takes isolated holidays and secluded places to stay in the UK to a whole new level.
Bay Ness Farm is a campsite on the east coast of England, perched on the cliffs about Robin Hood’s Bay with views of the rugged coastline as far as the eye can see in either direction.
The farm is operational and run by a couple. Follow the arrival instructions they send you as Google Maps isn’t accurate and the site really is tucked down a long corrugated track.
Each camping plot is large and sufficiently distanced from the next, there are also hook ups for campervans and vehicle parking is ample on each site. Each site has incredible views over the sea.
You’re a short 5 minute drive from Robin Hood’s Bay or a 30 minute walk down the coastal track. There are multiple other coastal walks in the area for those looking to hike, including the Coast to Coast routes and Cleaveland Ways.
The town of Whitby is only 4 miles away if you’re looking for more shops, restaurants and amenities. It’s a beautiful seaside town with plenty of outdoor activities such as the 199 Steps and Whitby Abbey.
You can book directly with the campsite’s website here.
4. Secluded country farmhouse in the Peak District
If a cosy stone farmhouse with wooden beams and a log burning fire sounds like your kind of secluded UK getaway then look no further than this gorgeous converted barn in Birchover, in the Peak District.
Birchover is such a small, quaint village just 5 miles from the town of Matlock but nestled in the hills so it feels like you’re hundreds of miles from the nearest town. The farmhouse itself is on private land at the top of a hill with views over the Rowtor Rocks. The main farmhouse is right behind the barn but the couple that live there are not farmers, they just own the property and we barely saw them. In fact we saw their gorgeous Jack Russell and Labrador mostly!
The house sleeps up to 4 with a stunning master bedroom, 2.5 bathrooms, a modern kitchen and large open fire.
There are a number of walks around the property too, up to the top of the mound, through the fields and there’s even a zipline built in the woods for the kids to enjoy (or big kids if you’re like me!)
Being in such a great location in Peak District also means you have easy access to countless hikes, walks and scenic drives. I recommend Mam Tor, Winnats Pass and Bamford Edge.
If you’re looking for a scenic drive, make sure to do the loop from Mam Tor, down the valley into Edale, around to Hope then through Castleton and finally through the Winnats Pass.
You can book to stay here at Rockingham Cottage.

5. Remote Holiday Cottage in Wales with a view of the Wye Valley
If secluded country cottages are more your style for a remote getaway, look no further than this beautiful cottage with a view over the Wye River.
Located on the hillside above the Welsh village of Llandogo, the cottage sleeps 2-5 people with a beautiful deck and garden overlooking the valley and the village below. While there are a handful of residential houses around you, it is easy to spend a whole week or weekend in the cottage as it’s completely self-contained with a full kitchen, two bathrooms, a sitting room with a log burning fire, a dining room/sun room and even a pool table and darts board!
Llandogo is only just over the border into Wales so you don’t have to drive too far from England. Plus the nearby towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth are fully equipt with anything you might need. The nearby Tintern Abbey ruins are spectacular to see and if you’re looking for a bit of isolated adventure then kayaking down the river Wye is a common pastime for locals and visitors alike!

This is the perfect secluded country cottage to sit out on the deck with a glass of wine and enjoy a spectacular view without another human in sight!

6. Boating on the Norfolk Broads
The ultimate in isolated holidays, what could be better than spending time on a boat and watching the rest of the world float past? A secluded UK getaway doesn’t have to mean staying in one place, and spending a few days cruising on a boat through beautiful countryside is the perfect romantic weekend or fun family adventure.
There are plenty of options for different boat sizes or durations of the holiday. But companies like Richardson Holidays have boats that sleep up to 8 people and some of them allow pets too!
Don’t worry, all relevant boat driving and training is given before you embark on your boating trip, you’ll be a natural cruiser in no time!
Check out the Norfolk Broads tourism website for plenty of boating options, including day hire if sleeping on a boat doesn’t uhhh… float your boat?
I hope these ideas for secluded UK getaways are helpful. With more people turning to staycations and holidays near home, unique experiences and places to stay can make that experience all the more exciting!

Flights: I use Expedia to find great flights and the best deals all over the world, they have regular sales and offers so I always check their website. I also check CheapOair to find cheap deals on round trip flights.
Car Rental: I love the customer service I've always gotten and the variety of options with Rental Cars. But for short notice rentals, I've been using Expedia for the last year, they always seem to have great one-day rates or last-minute rates from the main rental companies.
Accommodation: I prefer the flexibility of booking accommodation with Booking.com so I can cancel or change my reservation without a fee or only pay on arrival for most properties. For longer or more unique stays I prefer AirBnB because you can get the long stay discount, you can also find more unique properties and book experiences with talented locals and businesses. For my budget trips, I always stay in hostels and book through Hostelworld because they have great guarantees if anything does go wrong. If you arrive and your booking is not at the property, they refund the full deposit AND give you $50 extra credit.
Tours and organised trips Although I don’t use tours that often, I do like to book local experiences or day trips once I reach my destination. For that I use GetYourGuide because it has the biggest selection and variety of tour and experience options.
Travel Insurance: I currently use SafetyWing Nomad Insurance. Which allows me to pay a rolling monthly fee to cover my long term travels.
My camera gear and equipment: I use a Canon 77D with an 18-135mm lens or a 50mm lens. And a DJI Mavic Mini Drone. For all my gear including laptops, tripods and more camera accessories read my travel photography gear guide.
