The best restaurants in Da Nang, Vietnam

Spending over 3 months in Da Nang during 2023 and 2024 has given us plenty of time to discover the best restaurants in Da Nang and I was happy to take on the challenge - I love food!

So if you're looking for food inspiration during your stay in Danang, from traditional Vietnamese restaurants to Da Nang food specialities to the best International restaurants, including Mexican, American, Italian and brunch spots, read on to plan the best places to eat in Danang during your trip.

I'm also going to include our favourite Danang bars, beach bars and breweries if you're in search of drinks recommendations too.

Da Nang is a coastal city with a very laid back vibe compared to other cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. The best Da Nang restaurants are a melting pot of local ingredients and famous dishes from southern Vietnam and the central provinces. There is no shortage of good food in Danang!

Da Nang Food Guide: The best restaurants in Da Nang

Vietnamese restaurants in Da Nang to try

Thia Go

This is our favourite traditional Vietnamese local restaurant in Da Nang and it’s where we would always take friends who visited us during our stay in Da Nang.

It’s tucked down a residential side street but it is always busy, with the covered seating on the ground floor at the front packed with tourists and locals too. Although this is not Vietnamese street food, you’re sitting at a dining table and there’s table service, so it’s not as cheap as some of the food stands you’ll find on the street, but it’s still cheap if you’re visiting. 90K VND for a traditional bowl of Beef Pho which is only around £3 or $4.20 USD.

They have the best collection of traditional Vietnamese cuisine from Pho and Fried Rice to Bánh xèo and classic spring rolls. I recommend trying the garlic Morning Glory too - one of my favourites!

Banh Xeo is made from rice flour and the crispy pancake contrasts with the fresh seafood and veggies for a super yummy, filling and fresh meal.

The staff are lovely and will ask if you know how to eat Vietnamese food. They will show you how to combine the bean sprouts and fresh herbs into the Pho and the best sauces to go with your dish. (The Soy sauce and spicy sauce are the winners!) Probably the most delicious food and our favourite spot for traditional local cuisine based on how many times we went back!

Vietnom Eatery

One of the top restaurants in Danang purely for the amount and variety of food it offers and the range of diets it caters for. This place opened up during our stay in Da Nang and it’s a unique 3-in-1 food location.

It’s owned by the same people who own Bikini Bottom (a burger joint I’ll mention later) and they have a reputation for hiring deaf staff and treating them really well - so more deaf Vietnamese people joined their team! It led to them opening this huge Danang restaurant which combines 3 eateries in one spacious space:

1 - Vietnom: for a modern twist on traditional Vietnamese dishes

2 - The Quiet Place: for healthy vegan and veggie bowls, health drinks, smoothie bowls and juices

3 - Rainbowl: for the best poke bowls for a super affordable price

They also have a steak restaurant upstairs called Miss Steak.

Portion sizes are large and prices are great - we can here very often thanks to the huge variety of dishes on the menu!

Pho Viet Kieu

While this place has some great classics like Pho, we loved going here for the Bun Cha and Bun Bo. Bun Cha is a traditional dish sort of like a noodle salad with meat, and served with a fried egg and spring rolls. Bun Cha Ca is my favourite and the flavouring with fish sauce is *chefs kiss*.

Bun Bo is a stir fried beef noodle dish also served with a fried egg. They have vermicelli noodles and rice noodle dishes which were a welcome change from the amount of Pho we were eating!

The lady who owns it was born in Dà Nẵng in the 1950s and lived and travelled all over the world including the US, Australia and France before returning and setting up this restaurant.

An Thoi Restaurant

This restaurant is across the Han river in downtown Da Nang and located right behind the Han Market. It’s the perfect place to eat if you’re exploring the city and have a limited time but want to find local food for reasonable prices.

Morning Glory, oysters and the Bun Cha are favourites here - just beware of how much you order, some of the portion sizes are pretty large but the delicious food makes it hard to resist ordering more!

Kenta

I’ll be honest and say we didn’t come here much because it’s located right in the centre of An Thuong which is the expat area. While we spent a lot of time in the expat area with friends and at bars, we preferred some of the other Vietnamese restaurants I’ve already shared on this list.

The fresh seafood spring rolls made with rice paper are great here and they also do some really tasty, cheap and flavourful dishes like a mango salad and the lemongrass chilli tofu.

Umm Banh Mi Cafe

This was our go-to for a quick and filling lunch or snack and it is ALWAYS busy - you’ll see how full the seating is outside at almost any time of day. Thankfully service is quick and you can get Banh Mi to go too.

Banh Mi is a traditional Vietnamese sandwich served in a baguette roll. There are loads of filling options from egg to teriyaki chicken, beef and cheese, ham and cheese and traditional pate, pork and beef.

You can 100% find cheaper Banh Mi for around 10,000 VND (30p) at a street food cart but after I’ve had a couple of bouts of food poisoning from street food, I tend to avoid it and aim for restaurants that have a good reputation if I can! But even here, a Banh Mi is more expensive but it’s only 50,000 VND (£1.50) so it hardly breaks the bank!

Mi Quang Dung

Don’t go to Da Nang without having Mi Quang!

Mi Quang originates from the provinces of central Vietnam, so it’s a local dish with rice noodles, vegetables, grilled pork and shrimp with a broth which is thick and warming. The price for a bowl is around 50K VND (£1.50) so the value is great and it’s a traditional dish to try!

There are lots of famous restaurants in Danang serving Mi Quang but we found the dish to be just as good in the quiet side street restaurants as in the fancy restaurants. It’s the best food if you want something warm and filling.

Best International Restaurants in Da Nang

Best Mexican food in Danang - Adobo Mexican

If you're on the hunt for the best Mexican restaurant in Da Nang, there's really only one option (in my opinion at least!)

After being in Da Nang for a few weeks, we really were craving other flavours and my partner is American and nothing can stop his search for Mexican food!

Adobo isn’t cheap, it’s basically the prices you’d pay back at home, but it’s the only place we found proper Mexican food with all the fixings. Their build your own bowl or burrito is Chipotle style and it really hits the spot!

Best pizza in Da Nang - Olivia’s Pizza

We've enjoyed plenty of decent pizzas in Da Nang and there's a few spots that people rave about but during our last 2 months in Da Nang, we went to Olivia Pizza every Friday night before meeting friends for drinks and a pub quiz at Aqua Betty across the road.

There are two locations for Olivia’s but we always went to the one in An Thuong and the selection of pizzas is incredible, freshly made dough and baked right there - again not as cheap as your standard takeout place but if you’re looking for crispy, think woodfired style pizza in Da Nang, don’t miss it! Also the team there is lovely!

We always had pepperoni pizza with olives and either the Greek Olivia or the Mushroom and Goats Cheese.

Best burgers in Da Nang - Bikini Bottom or Burger Bros

Two large burgers with bacon, beef, cheese, and a brown bun on a wooden tray with a metal bowl of fries.

Burger Bros

Two small black skillet trays, one with a cheeseburger, and the other with fries on a dark wooden table

Bikini Bottom

There are honestly plenty of great spots in Da Nang for a good burger. If you’re looking for American In-n-Out style burgers then Bikini Bottom is the place to go. They also have great poutine and bowls. Always a good vibe, good size portions and decent price.

Burger Bros is a few streets over and has a great selection of burgers too.

Best poke bowls in Da Nang - Rainbowl Poke at Vietnom

I mentioned Vietnom at the top of this article and Rainbowl is one of the eateries located within Vietnom. They used to be separate in another area of town but their popularity meant they had to expand!

Honestly their poke bowls are some of the best I’ve ever had and the serving sizes are huge. Plus where else can you get poke bowls with all the fixings and either fresh salmon or tuna included for £6?!

The bowls here are crazy cheap, they have 5 or 6 to choose from and honestly I could eat them all every day. forever.

Best sushi in Da Nang - Fune Sushi

Like the poke bowls above, this is another classic example of yes, this isn’t the cheapest meal you can find in Da Nang, but it’s probably the cheapest sushi you’ll ever have that’s actually decent (you’re on the coast afterall!)

Fune Sushi has a great selection of Japanese dishes and sushi platters, we often order and get them delivered across the road to Aqua Betty while we were there for a pub quiz.

Best German style restaurant and beer - Anchor Restaurant and Bierhaus

Honestly, if you’ve been to Germany then don’t get too excited about this…

However if you’re an expat in Da Nang or you’ve been travelling around Southeast Asia for a while and are craving some German cuisine, then this is your spot in the city center.

It’s pricey but after almost 10 months without cured meats, decent cheese, sausages and pretzels, we were pretty stoked to find this place!

Best Texas BBQ and Tex Mex - Dirty Fingers

Every single expat raves about this place and it’s easy to see why.

It’s basically a Texas BBQ sports bar. If you want to watch a big sports game while you’re in Da Nang and it’s on at a weird time because of the time difference with your home country, chances are that Dirty Fingers will be open and showing the game.

Their smoked meat is epic, their burgers are classic and you can honestly tell that an American owns this place because nothing is by halves!

Best Indian food - Patakka

Indian food is always the thing I crave when I’ve been travelling for a while. Thankfully we found this great spot with plenty of Indian dishes that I love as well as contemporary twists on classic dishes.

There was a surprising number of Indian restaurants in Da Nang but this was the only one I really rated.

Vegan Restaurants in Da Nang

We aren’t vegetarian or vegan however we do limit our meat consumption and that’s meant we’ve scoped out a few vegetarian restaurants and vegan options during our stay in Danang.

Vietnom

I spoke about this out at the top and again, I can’t sing its praises enough. While not specifically a vegetarian restaurant, they have loads of vegetarian food options.

They have 3 eateries under one roof and so many of their dishes are veggie or vegan, you could go here every night for a couple of weeks and probably still not have tried them all.

I especially appreciated the vegan versions of Vietnamese dishes, something that is rarely catered for in traditional Vietnamese cooking.

Khong Vegan Kitchen

The cheapest vegan restaurant in Vietnam that we found just a couple of streets back from the beach. They have an extensive menu and prices are impressive.

We loved their fried platter which included fried tofu, fried broccoli, fried sweet potatoes and other veg with a dip. Also their bowls are huge portions and super tasty although sometimes their tofu was a bit soggy - word of warning!

The Nomad Kitchen

While not exclusively vegan, this is a Spanish restaurant with a twist and some comfort food thrown in there.

They do have vegan sausages, falafel sandwiches and they do a vegan Sunday roast option!

Best breakfast and brunch spots in Da Nang

Op La All Day Breakfast

Honestly we had breakfast for dinner here on more than one occasion too!

This was our staple on a Saturday morning with friends or after a night out and their breakfast platters, full cooked breakfasts, stacks of pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, avo toast, eggs benny, muffins, juices, pastries and more are absolutely everything you could wish for in a classic breakfast.

For the amount of food you get, prices are pretty great!

It’s right next door to and owned by Bikini Bottom (the burger place I mentioned above)

Jeremy's Kitchen

This place is run by an American expat (Jeremy) who has not only created a menu of American classics for breakfast and lunch, but has also set up the restaurant as an incredible bakery with incredible birthday cakes, occasion cakes, baked goods and so much bread - which is how the company survived the lockdowns.

Their full breakfast includes french toast on Challah bread with syrup which is basically the only sweet breakfast I’ll eat - it is to die for!

Jeremy's Kitchen Breakfast

A white plate with a large sandwich with bacon, chicken, cheese, and greens.

Jeremy's Kitchen Sandwich

They also do great sandwiches, the chicken, bacon and avo one is my favourite.

Bro's Cafe

If you’re looking for a cheap breakfast spot, this is the one. It was at the end of the street we lived on for our first month in Da Nang and we were always there for £1 egg and ham croissants and their coffee.

A bargain and great breakfast sandwiches!

Best bars in Da Nang

Best beach bar - Paradise Bar

Two full glasses of beer on a dark brown picnic table outside of a beach bar seating area on the sand with the sea in the distance

Paradise Bar

An outdoor beach bar with many seats under a large covered area. The beach bar is surrounded by green palm trees

Paradise Bar

We made a promise to take advantage of living by the beach as much as possible during our months in Danang and this was the beach bar closest to us that we came to every Sunday afternoon for a beer on the beach.

For a beach bar, prices are very affordable, they have seating both on and off the sand and some really nice cabanas too. Beaches in Da Nang are stunning with white sand and blue waters - honestly more beautiful than I expected for a busy city!

You can also grab a coconut or other soft drinks if you’re not drinking. They have food options too although we never ate there so I can’t testify to what the food is like.

They do have a large cinema screen projector setup on the beach for movie nights too and they will often be the host for beach events such as surf competitions and live music throughout the year.

We love the chilled vibe, walk-up beach location and great prices.

Best Beachfront terrace - East West Brewing

Of course if you know me, you know I love a brewery and this is (apparently) the only beachfront brewery in Southeast Asia.

I’ve seen lots of amazing breweries on our travels but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in such a stunning beachside location.

The interior is huge with a roof terrace perfect for parties. The outdoor terrace has beach access and is perfect for sunset drinks or a day by the beach if you don’t fancy being in the sand!

We spent far too many Saturday and Sunday afternoons here and I even bought an East West Brewing tshirt home as a souvenir!

Best cheap beer on the beach

If you want the cheapest beer on the beach then you’ll find those at the beach shacks along My Khe beach. These have the cheapest drinks including soft drinks, coconuts and other alcoholic drinks and you can order to take back to your beach lounger or towel.

If you want the cheapest beer at a beach bar, it’s probably at Paradise Beach Bar, especially between 12-6pm when they have their 3-for-2 happy hour deal.

Best beach bar for a special occasion

Maia beach bar is a bit fancier and turns into a more fancy bar-bar (if you know what I mean!) in the evenings. It’s just up the beach from Paradise Beach Bar and was recently renovated so its sleek Bali-esque design is a big draw for evening drinks and special occasions. They also have sofa tables on the beach.

Best bar for cheap half-litre of beer

Corner Pub in My An was our go-to for cheap beer. They have the regular local beers from around 25K and you can get a half-litre of Oktoberfest beer for 65k (just over £2)

It’s a great chill spot on the side of the road for people watching and having a quiet drink or for the start or end of your night out for a cheap beer.

An outdoor bar with a redd lit up sign and many stools for sitting at night

Best bar for pub quiz

We loved the pub quiz each Friday at Aqua Betty which is a tiki bar in the My An area. Also check out Le Funky Donkey for quiz nights and they have a good happy hour 7-9pm.

Best breweries in Da Nang, Vietnam

East West Brewing

While there aren’t a ton of breweries to choose from in Danang, East West Brewery is the one we went to the most. The main East West Brewing is in Ho Chi Minh City, this is their second location.

It’s the only beachfront brewery in Southeast Asia and we spent many a Sunday afternoon on their terrace overlooking the beach. They have great food and the craft beer isn’t a huge variety but it’s pretty solid. The brewery itself is very cool and although prices aren’t cheap (probably similar prices to what I’d pay at home in the UK which is expensive for Vietnam) - it’s a great place for beach drinks if you love craft beer.

The outdoor seating area of a brewery with many grey chairs and two umbrellas The beach is in the background stretching into the distance

Heart of Darkness

We first went to Heart of Darkness in Ho Chi Minh City and LOVED it. They opened a new location in Da Nang just a couple of weeks before we left so we only got to try it out once.

But they have great food and beer, they’re located on the other side of the Han River in Da Nang so more of a city vibe rather than beach vibe - definitely worth a visit!

BrewHAHA

Hit this one up if you’re visiting Heart of Darkness too as it’s on the same road across the river in Da Nang city.

It’s an odd pub type place with loads of beers and wines, loads of which are imported from Australia or Europe so if you like a variety, this taproom is a great shout.

The outdoors seating area of a bar with a large blue structure in the background of the bar. Many red and black chairs with wooden tables are in front of the bar

Seven Bridges

We first experienced Seven Bridges in Hanoi where they have a location in Tay Ho and we loved it. It’s actually a brewery that was founded in Danang, however the Danang location in the Son Tra district was destroyed by storms a couple of years ago and is still under repair.

The nearest location is in Hoi An (which you’re likely visiting too) and it’s possibly the most beautiful brewery I’ve ever seen. It’s in Hoi An old town in one of the traditional yellow houses with dark wooden beams and just the most stunning interior - don’t miss it if you’re in Hoi An and the beers are great!

Summary: where to eat in Danang, Vietnam

This is by no means an exhaustive list of the best restaurants or where to eat in Da Nang, if you visit Vietnam you’ll see the restaurants and street food stalls literally pop up anywhere including in people’s houses or just on the side of the road! So there are constantly new places appearing and new food to try!

This is a list of the places we enjoyed most and went to the most often in Da Nang - hopefully it helps you plan your trip and find somewhere tasty to enjoy on your stay!
